Maggie Kelley named to region one ODP team

July 2016– Mairead “Maggie” Kelley makes the Region 1 ODP team

Mairead “Maggie” Kelley, a member of Spirit of Liverpool’s 2003 Elite team, along with 5 of her teammates participated in 2015-16 Massachusetts Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (ODP).  This program concludes with the Region 1 ID camp at the University of Rhode Island in July.  This camp serves to identify the top players in Region 1.  59 girls were identified and offered to attend a special training for Region 1 players later this year.  Of that 50 only 20 were identified to compete as a team in Boca Raton, FL in November.  Maggie was identified and invited to both.

“I’m so proud of all the girls and knowing them all so well, I know they share my sense of pride and happiness for Maggie.”-Bernie Grimes, Club President.

U15 Girls coached by Jody Anderson won the "Global 5's National Championship in New Jersey. They got there by winning the Global 5's regional championship this June in Plymouth MA. (See Picture Above)

Well done to our U15 and U12 girls

Both State Champion Winners went on to represent Spirit of Liverpool and Massachusetts in the Regional Championships in WV in June

Well it’s official, Spirit of Liverpool left MAPLE for the NEP/NEC

This is a huge step in the transformation of our club to a higher level. It is something that has been in the works for a long time and all the hard work behind the scenes has now come to fruition.

The NEP is designed to provide the most appropriate environment for game play to assist the clubs that are able to provide the full scale model (U-11-U-18) for both boys and/or girls in New England and provide the optimal development environment for their players through a licensed full time DOC, Licensed coaches, an appropriate developmental curriculum, and appropriate facilities. The New England Championship is a standards based league focused on player development and game day environment while providing teams and clubs a pathway into the New England Premiership.

Spirit of Liverpool would like to thank MAPLE for providing a platform to develop our club to what it is today. We have enjoyed 12 great years developing our club from one U11 girls team in 2004 to a solid 38 teams of all ages, both genders, enjoying success at many levels along the way. This past season was our most successful of them all, all six of our U11 teams qualifying for the KC Andre Cup, our U11 boy’s reds winning it for the first time. We had several division winners on both the boys and the girl’s sides as well as finalists in the Massachusetts open cup. We had a U15 girls team compete in the region one champions league D2 and winning it by a landslide going undefeated all season. Our big success story is having six teams reach the Massachusetts State Cup Semi-finals with three of them reaching the championship finals. Our U18 boys just missed out but our U12 girls and U15 girls went on to win the State Championship and go on to represent Spirit of Liverpool and the State of Massachusetts in the USYSA Regionals in West Virginia.

“Aim for the sky and you'll reach the ceiling. Aim for the ceiling and you'll stay on the floor.”

Bill Shankly: Liverpool FC Manager 1959-1974

Now let’s see what we can do in the NEP/NEC.
